Simple White Bread

Nothing smells quite like “home” like a loaf of bread baking in the oven. 🙂

This is a recipe I tweaked from one I found ages ago online, and the recipe I used in the past required lots of kneading (my arms are tired- I juggle my kids all day) so this version is MUCH easier for me. Its perfect, soft bread that has the perfect crust and fluffy inside that my kids loveeee for their sandwiches.

The only white bread I’ll be making from now on, and I am so glad to be able to share it with you!

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp yeast

  • 1 tsp sugar

  • 1/2 cup warm water

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water

  • 1/4 cup sugar or honey

  • 3 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 6-7 cups all purpose flour

Directions

  • In a small bowl, dissolve sugar in water and add yeast. Let rise for approximately 10 minutes, until frothy.
  • In separate large bowl, add 2 1/2 cups warm water, mix in the honey, oil and salt.
  • Add yeast mixture to the large bowl, scraping sides to be sure to get it all in. Stir until combined.
  • Stir in the flour, one cup at a time, until dough is elastic and not too sticky.
  • Place dough on floured surface and gently knead for a couple minutes. Then, place into a lightly oiled bowl and cover with damp tea towel. Let rise in a warm place for about one hour, until doubled in size.
  • Punch down dough and divide into two equal balls. In two greased loaf pans, fold corner of dough under and into a circular shape and place them in the bread pans. Let rise for an additional hour.
  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Bake the bread for 5 minutes, then lower the temperature to 350 degrees and continue to bake for an additional 50 minutes, until bread is golden and done.
