Mmm, Buffalo Cauliflower. I know the ever-popular buffalo cauliflower “chicken wings” have been a popular thing for some time but I wanted to incorporate that idea into something a little more substantial, like a pizza! Crispy pizza crust, hot buffalo sauce and crunchy cauliflower florets with some fresh veggies and an avocado-tahini sauce to tone down that kick? Yep, it’s a good one. Buffalo sauce is traditionally not vegan due to the butter in it, but if you are making it strictly vegan you can find vegan butter at most grocery stores. I have yet to post my favorite pizza dough recipe that I used in this recipe but I will get on that later this week! In the meantime you can use basically any dough recipe or just buy a pre-made crust. Enjoy!!
Buffalo Cauliflower Pizza With Avocado Tahini Crema
Ingredients
- 1 large pizza crust (homemade pizza dough or store-bought crust)
- 1 head cauliflower
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 3/4 cup hot sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 Tablespoons white vinegar
- 1/2 cup vegan butter, melted
- 1 red bell pepper
- 1/2 cup green onions, chopped
- handful of fresh arugula or mixed leafy green
- 1 large ripe avocado
- 1/2 lemon, juiced
- 1/4 cup tahini paste
- salt and pepper
Directions
- Arrange pizza dough or crust on large baking sheet and preheat oven to 400 degrees F
- Chop cauliflower into bite size chunks and set aside. In large zip lock freezer bag, combine hot sauce, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, white vinegar and vegan butter. Mix in bag and add cauliflower, shake well to coat all pieces evenly.
- Pour contents of bag onto pizza crust, spread the cauliflower pieces out in single layer and drizzle leftover sauce over the entire crust.
- Place sliced red bell peppers across pizza and place baking sheet in oven. Bake for 20 minutes or until edges of pizza crust are golden brown.
- Meanwhile, in medium sized bowl, add avocado and mash with fork until smooth. Add tahini paste, lemon juice and salt and pepper. Mix well. (Add water by tablespoon-full until the consistency is thin enough to drizzle) Set mixture aside
- Remove pizza from oven and sprinkle chopped green onion and arugula over it. Drizzle the avocado tahini sauce over entire pizza. Slice and serve!
