Everyone needs a good chocolate chip cookie recipe. This is the only one you will ever need, trust me. These cookies are so good, but you don’t need to take my word for it. My mom (my kids Oma) made these cookies while I was growing up and they really bring back the best of memories. I remember making a batch of cookie dough with a couple of my siblings once, just so we could eat the batter. Seriously, if you can try to leave some batter to make the actual cookies you will understand that this is basically the holy grail of cookie recipes. Also, I recently started making my own brown sugar instead of buying it in-store (I added my note in the ingredients on how to do that) and I find it’s better that way but, either way, they’ll turn out great. Enjoy!
Oma's Bakery-Style Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1/2 cup brown sugar (or mix 1 cup granulated sugar with 1 Tbsp molasses)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 cups flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 cup dark chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup white chocolate chips
Directions
- In a stand mixer with paddle attachment, beat butter and sugars until fluffy.
- Add egg, mix until frothy, and add vanilla.
- Slowly add the flour, mixed with the baking soda. Beat on low until thick dough forms. Add dark and white chocolate chips and mix until just incorporated.
- Cover bowl in plastic wrap and place in fridge to chill at least 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees. On an ungreased cookie sheet, roll cookie dough into balls about 1 1/2 inch thick and place on pan, leaving space between as they will spread while baking.
- Bake 12-14 minutes, or until edges start to brown. Remove from oven and let cool slightly, serve!
