Funnel Fries

Living in Canada you know a thing or two about funnel cakes (A.K.A Beaver Tails) 😉 The pastry you find at festivals and events in areas that usually have some outdoor activity happening in the middle of winter. They are slabs of fried pastry dough either covered in cinnamon sugar or Nutella and bananas, or some other concoction of chocolate heaven. Anyway, this is the 15-minute, simplified, slightly healthier (they’re baked!) version of those made into FRIES you can dip! I suggest melted Nutella, Dulce de Leche, an icing dip or even hot fudge. So much fun to make with the kids, and to eat! Enjoy!

  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 puff pastry sheet
  • 3/4 cup butter, melted

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees
  2. Spray 2 cookie sheets with non stick spray
  3. Cut puff pastry in half lengthwise and then cut each half into one-inch wide strips
  4. Twist each strip by rolling it slightly and then place the strips on prepared baking sheets
  5. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown.
  6. In a small bowl, combine the sugar and cinnamon and mix well. In a separate bowl, prepare melted butter for dunking the strips.
