Cheddar Garlic Bread Knots

There’s nothing better than some soft, fresh, cheesy garlic bread to eat alongside basically anything. I would serve these with soup or stew, or even with a marinara dip to tag along with a BBQ dinner. So easy to make, I sometimes just start this dough in the morning and decide a plan for it later in the day.. Which was the case with these guys. I use this dough for everything but these little knots of cheesy yum-ness were just what I needed to make today. I hope you enjoy!!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water

  • 1 Tablespoon sugar

  • 1 Tablespoon yeast

  • 1 egg

  • 2 Tablespoons olive oil

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 4-5 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 cup butter, melted

  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano

  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley

  • pinch of kosher salt

  • 1 1/2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

Directions

  • In stand mixer with dough hook attached, add 1/2 cup warm water and sugar. Let dissolve and add yeast. Wait 10 minutes or until frothy, then add egg, olive oil and salt. Mix gently. Slowly add the flour, one cup at a time, and add the remaining 1/2 cup of water as needed, to keep dough from becoming too dry. Mix dough on low for 5-7 minutes and transfer to a greased bowl, cover with a damp tea towel and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Spray a baking tray with non-stick spray or line with parchment. Then, punch dough down and divide into two equal pieces. On floured surface, roll out each ball of dough into a 10-12 inch oval shape. Slice oval into 8 strips, and roll each piece into a 5-inch rope, about 1/2 inch thick. Tie into a knot, tucking the ends. Repeat with other half of dough for a total of 16 knots. Place knots on baking tray, leaving space between each so they aren’t touching. (You may need two baking trays)
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the butter, Parmesan, garlic powder, oregano, parsley and salt. Brush each knot with half of the butter mixture. Then, sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over all the dough knots. Place tray in oven and bake approx 20 minutes, until golden brown.
  • Remove from oven and brush with remaining butter mixture, serve immediately. Enjoy!
